Science and math education research indicate that the academic success and long term retention of material is greatly enhanced by a small active learning environment. In order to ensure the success of its students, Tarleton classes are kept small and the department providing additional educational resources to promote both an active learning environment in the classroom as well as outside tutoring.  Thus, there are numerous positions for engineering physics students to work in the department as classroom helpers, tutors, lab assistants, and homework graders.

Tarleton faculty operate active research programs in both engineering and physics. This research is funded both internally by the Tarleton Organized Research Committee and departmental funds and by external granting agencies including the Department of Defense, Research Corporation, etc.

Research fellowships are available for both the summer and the academic year and are awarded on a competitive basis to students interested in doing engineering physics research. These awards typically range from $500 to $3000 per year depending on the individual research program funding.
