General Information

On April 2nd-4th, 2009, Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, will host the Spring 2009 Joint Meeting of the Texas Sections of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), the American Physical Society (APS), and Zone 13 of the Society of Physics Students (SPS). This will be a general meeting. Contributed papers from any area of physics are welcomed and encouraged. However, areas of emphasis for the meeting include Astronomy and Space Science, Innovations in Physics Teaching, Undergraduate and High School Student Research, and Applications of Accelerators. Most of the sessions and workshops will be held in the Science Building. The Friday lunch will be held at nearby Newman Hall across from the TSU campus. Business meetings of the Texas Sections of the AAPT and the APS will immediately follow the Friday lunch. A banquet will also be held on Friday evening at an external site yet to be determined.

Planetarium Shows & Laboratory Tours

The TSU Planetarium will be providing free shows during the conference. In addition, tours of undergraduate physics labs and student research facilities including the TSU Astronomical Observatory, the Ion Accelerator Laboratory, Hydrology and Environmental Engineering Laboratory and Scanning Electron Microscope Laboratory will be offered.

 

Physics and Physical Science Teacher Workshops

A program of hands-on AAPT workshops for physics and physical science teachers will be presented during the meeting.

Pre-Registration

Everyone is encouraged to pre-register in order to guarantee lunch and banquet tickets and to get the lowest registration charge.  Registration fees will increase after the pre-registration deadline of March 10, 2009.

The Texas Section of the American Physical Society is providing Free Lunch Tickets and Reduced Priced Banquet Tickets to Students who pre-register.

Especially for Students

Special programs to encourage and support student participation in the American Physical Society, American Association of Physics Teachers and the Society of Physics Students are being planned.

All abstracts will be via the APS website before the meeting. Links to the APS abstracts on the WEB site are maintained as an archive of meeting abstracts. This will continue indefinitely into the future so that later you can look or reference the URL of your abstract.
